ARTICLES, READINGS & OTHER RESOURCES
Book: Merchants of Doubt
The book, Merchants of Doubt, is "the troubling story of how a cadre of influential scientists have clouded public understanding of scientific facts to advance a political and economic agenda." (Naomi Oreskes, http://www.merchantsofdoubt.org/index.html)
Science historians Naomi Oreskes and Erik Conway "explain how a loose–knit group of high-level scientists, with extensive political connections, ran effective campaigns to mislead the public and deny well-established scientific knowledge over four decades. They show how the ideology of free market fundamentalism, aided by a too-compliant media, has skewed public understanding of some of the most pressing issues of our era." (Naomi Oreskes, http://www.merchantsofdoubt.org/index.html)
“This book about the politics of doubt by Naomi Oreskes and Erik M. Conway explores the long, connected, and intentional obfuscation of science by manufactured controversy. It is clear, scientifically responsible, and historically compelling—it is an essential and passionate book about our times.”—Peter Galison, Harvard University, author of Einstein’s Clocks, Poincaré’s Maps

MOVIES & DOCUMENTARIES
The American Denial of Global Warming & Answering Climate Change Skeptics
These are two lectures by science historian Naomi Oreskes on 'The American Denial of Global Warming'
and 'Answering Climate Change Skeptics'. In 'The American Denial of Climate Change', she discusses the
science behind climate change and dispels the notion that there is a debate surrounding climate change.
The scientific community has reached a consensus, backed by mountains of data, that climate change is
occuring as a result of our activities on this planet. The second video, 'Answering Climate Change
Skeptics', discusses common discourses found around climate change and dispels untruths surrounding
these discourses.
